How do you actually store food properly? What do you have to keep in mind when storing vegetables, avocado and co.? Here are some tips on how to best store food and keep them fresh longer.
Tomatoes do not like the cold, which is why the fridge is not the right place to store them. Ideally, tomatoes are stored in a well-ventilated, dark space at room temperature, because the cold is a real aroma killer. Tomatoes should be stored in a rather dark place or protected from direct sunlight, as this will allow the tomatoes to mature further.
If an avocado is still very hard and needs to ripen a bit, do not put it in the refrigerator. For there the butter fruit will no longer ripen. If you want the avocado to become edible faster, you should put an apple next to the avocado. Similar to bananas, apples also stimulate the ripening process in avocados. Ripe avocados can be stored in the refrigerator, but should not stay there for much longer than three days. If half a fruit is to be preserved, always leave the kernel in the fruit and sprinkle the cut side with a little lemon juice. This way, the avocado does not discolour so quickly.

Even in the case of dried foods, you can make some mistakes when storing them. It is very important that no moisture gets into the food. For this reason, opt for the leak-proof OPTIMA dry storage containers and do not leave the food in the packaging. Plus, it is important to ensure that the size of the containers is adapted to the quantity of dry food. This saves a lot of space in kitchen cabinets.
