Infused water in a carafe

Drinking enough water made easy!

Everyone knows how important it is to drink plenty of water every day. Drinking lots of water is good for our skin, our internal organs and our general well-being. But does that mean we always have to be satisfied with boring old tap water? No! Thankfully, another option is available in the form of infused water. Or to put it another way: water with flavour.

Infused water is an ingenious way to derive added benefits from drinking water. It helps many people increase the water balance in their bodies while also enjoying drinking water. And on top of that, it’s a healthy option as fruit, herbs, vegetables & co. release valuable nutrients into the water – such as minerals, vitamins and antioxidants – and these make their way into the body as a result.

Infused water: it’s so simple!

Here’s the general rule: you can choose almost any ingredients to pep up the flavour of water. But the important thing to remember is that unlike tea, the flavour of these ingredients mustn’t be drawn out by heat. With that in mind, try to make sure you choose fruit and vegetables that mix well with water.

Whatever kind of infused water you’re making, the basis should always be tap water (you can also use filtered water if you need to or just prefer it) or mineral water, at as cold a temperature as possible. Take this as a rule of thumb: to make infused water, mix a litre of water with your choice of ingredients and let the mixture steep for a few hours. How about a “ménage-à-trois” with cucumber, mint and chilli? You’ll find recipe along with other refreshing ideas here. 

Checklist for preparing infused water

  • Use fresh ingredients!
  • The fresher the ingredients, the more intense the flavour of the water.
  • Go for juicy! 
  • Fruit such as melons, citrus fruits, berries and even bananas can be transformed into delicious infused water and give the water a special flavour. And of course, you can also add a touch of cocoa powder, cinnamon, cayenne pepper or another spice in order to refine the flavour. 
  • Less is more! 
  • In order to keep that charismatic flavour, it’s a good idea to limit yourself to around two or three kinds of ingredients when deciding how many to use. Too many ingredients can end up spoiling the flavour. 
  • Serve it in style! 
  • We all know that food and drink has to be a treat for the eyes, too – so it’s worth serving your infused water in eye-catching style in a carafe or a jug. That way, you’ll find it much easier and twice as fun to drink water.
